I Want Cutting Chai

I really do; a nice steaming cup. With sugar, and maybe some elaichi. It's pouring outside; and the air conditioner vent near my desk clearly hates me. I shall warm up my frozen fingers by typing to you.

Considering the date on which I last posted it would be a perfectly valid assumption that I have been very lazy about it. In actual fact though, I have been sketching and painting more than ever. Jinny got me the most beautiful wooden easel and palate. An actual palate; with a little hole for my thumb and everything! Not those little plastic ones with the compartments for colours (which I still use and ADORE by the way). He also got me a book of large sized canvas sheets.

While I felt incredibly encouraged by it all, I panicked and faced painters block like never before. I would just stare at the large canvas not knowing how or where to begin. I didn't know how my tiny brushes were going to cover all that area. I didn't know how to think in that size.

I hit the library to do some research (yes, I'm old school) on how to treat a canvas and how to paint using my arm and not just my wrist and fingers. Reading that book made me think for the first time, that I would actually love to take an art class. I will too. Soon.

A couple of weeks ago Jinny finally asked why I hadn't used the easel and canvas yet. I confessed that I was too scared of making a big mess of such a beautiful thing. He then gave me the most liberating piece of advice. "Baby..", he said, "...paint as horribly as you possibly can. Make every mistake you're scared you're going to make".

I am now almost done with my first ever 'big painting'. And I shall post it here as soon as it's done.

Until then, I shall post the giant backlog of sketches that have accumulated over the months of hibernation.

This one is called Laptop Leech. It is charcoal on paper and it took me about 15 minutes to do. This is Jinny's favourite pose. He can be spotted in this pose at various comfy spots in his house, mostly on weekends.

The Jinny in his natural habitat

That's all from me folks.
I'll be back in a jiffy!

P.S: Happy Chinese New Year!
